PLASFED: Second-quarter growth is welcome, but production costs must fall for it to last
PLASFED chairman Ömer Karadeniz commented on 2.3% economic and 2.4% industrial growth in the second quarter and called for lower raw material, financing, energy and labour costs.

Ömer Karadeniz, chairman of the Plastics Industrialists Federation (PLASFED), commented on TurkStat's second-quarter data. According to the figures, the Turkish economy grew 2.3% year on year in the second quarter of 2026. Seasonally and calendar-adjusted GDP rose 1.1% on the previous quarter. Industry grew 2.4% in the second quarter, after contracting 0.8% in the first.
The main message of Karadeniz's statement is the quality and durability of growth. The federation highlighted these points:
- lower financing, energy, raw material and labour costs,
- stronger policies that cut production costs and support investment,
- lower raw material, financing and energy costs, which are among the plastics sector's main problems,
- a shift to higher-value, competitive production while keeping existing capacity,
- stronger export competitiveness.
What does this mean for a molder?
The figures cover the economy and industry in general; they contain no plastics-specific production or order data. The sector's position is clear, though: growth is not expected to last unless cost items come down.
