Raw material residence time in the barrel
The longer the melt stays in the barrel, the higher the risk of degradation — especially for PVC, POM, PET and some engineering plastics. Residence time is directly related to cycle time and shot size.
What is this calculation used for?
Finds how long the material waits in the barrel (heating cylinder) and may degrade. Especially with heat-sensitive materials such as PVC, POM and PET, if the part is small but the machine is large, the material stays in the barrel far too long; this calculator reveals that risk in advance.

How is it calculated?
- Residence time = (barrel capacity ÷ shot weight) × cycle time
